Beijing Olympics 2008 opening ceremony

Tonight I was fortunate enough obtain front-row seating for exclusive, close-up highlights of the Bejing 2008 Olympics opening ceremony.

And sure enough, it was delivered with plenty of bang and glam even on my teeny 15" TV. So for those of you that actually blew three to five digits worth of bucks for this (plus plane tickets and hotel), it may have actually been worth it!

 

The part that I thought was the most surreal was towards the end when the last torch runner, Chinese Olympian Li Ning (李宁), got airlifted to the top of the Bird's Nest (鸟巢) and starts running along the inner rim towards the Olympic flame tower like a slow motion episode of Spiderman crosses Chariots of Fire. It surely didn't look easy!

But as the saying goes, pictures are worth a thousand words. So here are some high quality pictures I've dug up to commemorate this worldly spectacle:
