North Berkeley armed robberies

I've received a email with this warning from Berkeley Police today. Just wanted to share it for those like me who live at and/or venture to Northside Berkeley at night which is usually considered much safer than Southside. Perhaps, this is percisely the reason why these buggers decide to rob students on Northside. Note that armed robberies also took place at the Clark Kerr Campus resident halls recently. Be vigilant fellow Bears!

Fellow Community Members,

We have a robbery series that has developed in northeast Berkeley that I wanted to inform you about.

Since September 20th, we have had eight armed robberies of pedestrians in the Beat 2 area; a majority of the robberies have occurred in the area bordered by Arch Street, Cedar Street, La Loma Avenue, and Hearst Avenue. The robberies have occurred on different days throughout the week, but have all taken place during nighttime hours: between 9:00 p.m. and midnight.

The suspects are described as two black males in their late teens to early 20's; one is 5'6" to 5'9" tall with a stocky build, and the other is 5'9" to 6'0" tall with a thin build. The suspects have been armed with a silver handgun.

The vehicle associated with these robberies is a silver import car. In some of the robberies, the car has been seen in the area before the crime, and in other robberies it has been seen leaving the area. Our Robbery Detectives believe that there is a third suspect driving the car while the two described suspects commit the actual robbery.

We ask that if anyone sees a suspicious silver import car with two men matching the suspect descriptions inside with a third occupant, please call B.P.D. as soon as possible. If you are not able to call the police when you see the car, our Detectives ask that you write down the license plate number and pass it along to B.P.D. If you have any information regarding the robbery series, please contact our Robbery Detective Division at (510) 981-5742.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can always reach me at (510) 981-5773.

Respectfully,

Ofc. Casimiro Pierantoni #96
