ZipZoomFly selling Hitachi 1TB HD for $89.99 AR
So two months ago, I thought I missed a great deal (which turned out to be a pricing error) from Dell -- a 1TB hard drive starting at $109.99. Lo and behold, ZipZoomFly is offering a even better one -- $89.99 1TB Hitachi HD after $30 mail-in-rebate (originally $119.99)!
Well... not exactly $89.99. Californians such as myself have to pay sales tax off the original price (for me in the East Bay: 8.75% x $119.99 = $10.50) and shipping which starts at $7. To sum it up, I paid exactly $107.77 after $30 mail-in-rebate which isn't shabby at all considering how these metallic stacks of platter cost around $400 one year ago when they first entered the market!
So yes, I bit on this deal mainly because my current drive space situation is in the red zone -- < 100 GB of free space left and at the rate I'm downloading TV Series episodes and rendering HD videos, it'll be used up quite soon!
But nevertheless, I do have a really keen feeling -- one that I'll be willing to bet $20 and a t-shirt on -- that the price will be below the $100 mark (let's say $89.99?) by year's end without the need for any rebates! So for those that can wait, you may be rewarded -- but at least I won't have to worry about getting trampled over during those Black/Blue/Brown/Pink Friday stampedes!

Overview
The 7K1000 features a 5-platter 10-head perpendicular magnetic recording design with rotational speeds at 7200rpm. The cache size has been increased to 32MB from the previous 16MB on the TK series. Hitachi includes their ramp load/unload, advanced low-power idle modes, and thermal-fly height control technologies. This drive series also supports Native Command Queuing and hot-swap capabilities.
